Help
How to get your iPhone ready, open Locaflip for the first time, and what to do when something doesn’t work.
Turning on Developer Mode
Location simulation is an iOS developer service, so your iPhone needs Developer Mode turned on. You only have to do this once.
- On your iPhone, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode.
- Turn on the switch and choose Restart.
- After the restart, unlock your iPhone and tap Turn On in the dialog. You may need to enter your passcode.
Sometimes the Developer Mode setting appears only after the iPhone has been connected to a Mac with developer tools. If you don’t see it, connect your iPhone with a cable, open Locaflip, and check Settings again.
Trusting the computer
The first time you connect with a cable, your iPhone asks Trust This Computer? Tap Trust and enter your iPhone passcode.
On a Mac with Apple silicon, you may be asked whether to allow the accessory to connect. Choose Allow.
First launch and component setup
- Open the downloaded DMG file and drag Locaflip to your Applications folder.
- Open Locaflip from the Applications folder.
- The app offers to install the components it needs to communicate with your iPhone. Confirm, and it downloads and sets up everything on its own. You don’t need Terminal or Xcode.
Setup happens only once. When Locaflip connects to your iPhone, macOS may ask for an administrator password — Locaflip needs it to start the secure connection that iOS 17 and later require.
Does macOS say Locaflip can’t be opened? During the beta that’s expected – follow the installation steps.
Activating your license
When you sign up for the beta, you get your license key right on the page and by email. Copy it and open Locaflip — it finds the key on your clipboard automatically. Otherwise, paste it into the License key field. Activation requires an internet connection.
One license covers 2 Macs at the same time. When you switch Macs, choose Deactivate this Mac… (Locaflip › Settings › Subscription) on the old one and enter your key on the new one. If you’ve lost your key, we can send it again.
Returning to your real location
Click Reset location. Your iPhone immediately returns to its real GPS location, and apps see it where it actually is again.
If your Mac isn’t at hand, restarting your iPhone also ends the simulation.
Troubleshooting
My iPhone doesn’t appear in Locaflip
- Cable. Use a cable that carries data. Some cables can only charge.
- Unlocked iPhone. Keep your iPhone unlocked while connecting, and confirm Trust This Computer.
- Accessory access on the Mac. If you declined the request to allow the accessory to connect, unplug the cable and plug it back in, or change the setting in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- A different port. Try another port, ideally one directly on the Mac rather than on a hub.
- Developer Mode. Make sure it’s turned on (see above).
The location jumps back after a while
Set the location with Set location: Locaflip holds it until you reset it. If the connection wavers, it sets the location again, and if that doesn’t work, it sounds an alarm so you know right away.
